Chester FC Women midfielder Ashleigh Bulock praised the team for their intensity and commitment in training over the past weeks as the Blues picked up their first win in four games following a 3-1 victory against West Kirby.
The midfield maestro grabbed a brace after an impressive performance in a game that Chester dominated from start to finish.
Speaking to SealsTalk after the game Bullock gave us her thoughts and reactions following the win.
" I think the team played very positive, I'm happy with the two goals and from last weeks defeat, I'm glad we came out with a good attitude and played with a good tempo. Very pleased to be on the scoresheet and for Abi (Abi France) to get the first one".
Bullocks first of the game came on the stroke of half time following a flick through ball from striker Amy Broomhead, Chester's number 10 was able to compose herself and slot the ball easily into the far corner. I asked if finishing was something that had been worked on during training over the past few weeks.
" Yeah, we have worked a lot on set pieces playing through the middle and working it round in training. It has worked out really well for us in the game, training has really picked up over the last weeks and it's showing on the field. Once you have a positive training session and follow it on Sunday it looks really well for the team.
After last weeks cup exit to Manchester Stingers, the Seals had gone four games without a win in all competitions, Bullock admitted that it was a very high level of performance from the team today and slightly downbeat about not grabbing a hat-trick
" I think just once we get the ball running and moving around the pitch, It's getting that first goal is key for the team to push on. I tried hard to get that third goal but if there was a penalty or flick I could of possibly have got it, but happy to get two it's better than none.
" It's so important to carry this confidence into the league now after last week's performance against a strong team we've shown we can play at that ability and it's what we need every week.
The Blues will now turn their attention to the league where they will face Didsbury away from home next week.
