A lacklustre Chester FC Women suffered their first loss at home this season as Altrincham Ladies punished the Blues either side of the half.
Things could have been a different story as Amy Smith had a chance to draw her side level in the 67th minute but failed to convert her effort.
Smith admits she needs to ‘work’ on her shooting after failing to capitalise on fantastic goal scoring chances in recent weeks.
“I need to practice one on ones” said Smith. “I could of had one (goal) and should have finished it. It’s happened a few times in the last couple of weeks and its something I need to improve on. I could have had three goals in the last couple of games and it’s something I need to work on.
“Then we had a couple of other chances and we weren't clinical enough, we could have done a lot better with them and put them away.”
The Blues drew 1-1 with Altrincham in the reverse fixture and really could have performed at a higher standard, against a side who find themselves towards the back end of the table.
“Always a tough game against these, but they are definitely beatable. They're near the bottom of the league and haven't played many games. We know we can beat these and we’ve done it before, it’s disappointing.”
The Seals couldn’t seem to piece together their attacks, with over hit balls and slow build up play. The wind was awful down Ellesmere Port Sports Village, which really affected Chester’s normal, fast, fluid style of play.
“We didn’t show up today and we tried to go for the long ball over the top all the time and the wind was taking it and we didn’t get on the end of it. We could have played it more on the floor I think and as a team worked it better in the middle rather than just going for the long ball.”
Chester have now got themselves several weeks off as the winter break is amongst us. Martin Fitzsimons’ side will look to get back to winning ways against West Kirkby in the cup on 19th January.
