Chester FC captain Lauren Quigg was disappointed with the team's style of play in Sunday's league defeat against Altrincham FC Ladies.
The result marked the end of the Blues' unbeaten home record this season which stretched over four games, scoring 16 goals in the process.
The Blues defender spoke after the loss at Ellesmere Port Sports Village and was frustrated with her side's lack of invention throughout the ninety minutes.
"I think we were trying to force the ball long and with the conditions and the wind taking it even further, it wasn’t working," she said. "We needed different options, but we weren’t trying different things or showing for the ball.
"With the conditions and the sun being in our faces in the first half, there was a lot more information and communication needed on the pitch. I just think we needed to be talking more, and have a 'plan b'.”
The Seals skipper also found the defeat hard to take due to how evenly the teams matched up on the day.
This came as no surprise as the two teams drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture, but Chester lacked a cutting edge according to Quigg.
"Their goals came from mistakes, they weren’t anything special." She said. "Other than that I don’t think they really tested our ‘keeper. We probably tested their ‘keeper a lot more.
“It was an even battle in the middle of the park and a fairly matched game, but we need to be more clinical in front of goal.”
The Blues now go in to the winter break with a lot to work to do if they are to stay near the top of the table come the end of the season.
Quigg believes that communication and finding other routes to goal will be key in 2020 to push on.
“Week in week out we say communication needs to be more," she said. "We’ve played together for quite a long time now, so we should be able to get the chat up and I think that’s gonna be massive for us.
“We have scored good goals in previous weeks, but from corners and set-pieces I think that’s something we need to push on and get more goals from."
