Three things we learned from Stockport County LFC (a)

SealsTalk reflects on three talking points following a tough afternoon at the office for Chester FC Women at Stockport County LFC.

1. Time to focus on the league. Following Chester's cup exit on Sunday, The Seals have just six games remaining in the league with all eyes on them having a good end of season run-in and claiming 3rd place ahead of Warrington Wolverines. The Blues haven't played a league fixture for almost four weeks now, but it's vitally important their ready for the task ahead and hit the ground running. A lack of composure could see Chester finish outside the top four which would be a disappointment after a very good season. Chester travel for a local derby against Warrington on March 15th a game that could prove vital for both sides come the end of the season. The teams produced a four-goal thriller when they met earlier on in the season, one game surely not to be missed.

2. It was not for the lack of trying. It wasn't for the lack of trying from Chester on Sunday, the scoreline reflected quite a one-sided game but in truth, The Blues did create quite a number of opportunities going forward. Rachel Lever came ever so close to giving Chester the lead after a wonderful bit of skill from Hannah Snape the forward was sent through on goal only to see her shot in the underside of the crossbar. If that shot goes in, it turns into a completely different game, but credit, where credit is due Stockport, played some brilliant football and fully deserved the win. It was always going to be difficult coming up against a side two league's above and Stockport's class just showed when they needed it.

3. Have Chester uncovered a gem in Anna Jones? On Sunday, Anna Jones officially made her Chester debut after being subbed on during the second half. The winger completed her move to The Seals on Thursday from Llandudno Ladies and made an instant impact when she came on. Looking to take the ball and get at defenders on the wing, the new signing revealed one of her best qualities is her speed, something that Chester could very much use to their advantage moving forward. The signs looking promising from Anna who will be looking to make an impact in the games remaining this season.
