Emma Davies scored her first goal of the season as Chester FC Women cruised to a 6-2 win against Didsbury Ladies.

Davies replaced Amy Broomhead in the 77th minute and the sub only needed six minutes to open her account for the Seals. The winger was visibly made up with her performance and believed the Blues ‘deserved’ the win.

“I’m buzzing to score and I’m really happy for the girls, we deserved it and the win has been a long time coming. We fought hard and we got there, our heads didn’t drop, and we got the first goal, pushed on and got the six goals.”

Davies admitted Chester’s mentality hasn’t always been positive when they’ve conceded first in a game, which has been an occurrence far too often this season. However, the Blues responded superbly to Didsbury taking the lead and went on to dominate the game.

“It seems to be happening often where the other team get an early goal, or the first goal, and our heads tend to drop. Today that didn’t happen, and we played really well, we’re a great team and we deserved the win.”

The goal scorer has struggled to nail down a spot in the starting eleven, but with her impressive cameo it gives manager Martin Fitzsimons a selection dilemma going into the next game. As for Davies she would ‘love’ to start more but is aware the needs of the team come above her own.

“I wouldn’t say disappointed (not to start), but everyone loves to start, but I’m a firm believer to get the strongest team out because I want to win even if I’m not on the field.”

Davies placed emphasis of how ‘important’ the win was, as Sunday’s result marked the Seals breaking a run of five games without a win at home and in the process leapfrogged Warrington Wolverines into third place.

“It’s so important to get back to winning ways at home, especially for the girls’ confidence as well, when we win everyone’s on top of the world and training is a lot better. I’m optimistic to continue this form and now that we have the win, that we really needed, we can take that into the remaining games.”
