Chester FC Women's manager Martin Fitzsimons was pleased with the desire his team showed in the second-half of the 6-2 defeat to Salford City Lionesses.
Goals from Rachel Lever and midfielder Sarah Redman were not enough as Salford got revenge for the reverse fixture in which the Blues won 3-1.
However, Fitzsimons was encouraged from his side's performance in the second 45 minutes.
"Second half we can take a lot from that," said Fitzsimons, "we showed a lot more fight, a lot more desire.
"In the second half we were up for it. It was a just a few individual mistakes which cost us the goals which was disappointing but we can take a lot from that second half in terms of what we did right.
"The goals that we did score were of a really high quality. Unfortunately, we couldn’t turn around the two-goal deficit from the first half."
Unfortunately for the Blues, the damage was mostly done in the first half as Salford struck early.
This two-goal lead proved too much for Chester to comeback from, something Fitzsimons says you can't do when playing a team near the top of the table.
"Last week (vs Liverpool Feds), we managed to turn it around from being down 1-0 at half time, but when you’re playing a quality side like Salford going in 3-0 down, you’re right up against it.
“Salford are a solid team and you know what you’re gonna get with them. They’re going to try and dominate the ball and work you as hard as they possibly can right the way across the pitch from back to front and side to side. You’ve got to be prepared for that."
The manager will be hoping for a reaction this weekend as his side face the first of two fixtures against Warrington Wolverines, which will be played at Ellesmere Port Sport Village.
