No game for Chester FC Women this weekend as the Argyle Cup takes precedent. The Seals got knocked out at the first hurdle against Manchester Stingers in an impressive performance against a side in the division above.
Chester have only played two league games since the 2-0 loss at home to Altrincham on December 8th. The winter break, cup competitions and postponements have limited the Blues' play time in the competition. Even if there was a scheduled fixture there would have been a high chance the game would have been called off anyway due to storm Ciara hitting the UK.
The likes of Emma Davies and Izzy Crooks got valuable minutes in Sundays draw against West Kirby, as many players got opportunities which have been limited in recent weeks.
Martin Fitzsimons was ‘keen’ to get a fixture for his side this weekend and give more playing time to fringe players.
“We want to make sure those players who aren’t getting the game time get the game time and ultimately then there’s no excuses.”
The break gives an opportunity to get key players back from injury, such as top goal scorer Rachel Lever, who missed last weekends 1-1 draw at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.
Unfortunately the Blues were unable to organise a fixture as Chester now have to wait another week before the Cheshire Cup game against Stockport County Ladies.
