Rachel Lever praised 'fighting spirit' following 6-2 win over Didsbury.

Chester FC Women's top goal-scorer Rachel Lever was pleased with her team's reaction after the Blues came from behind to beat Didsbury Ladies 6-2.

Lever was in hot-form once again for the Seals in the game, providing three assists and also getting on the scoresheet herself towards the end of the game.

However, it was the team's togetherness and 'never say die attitude' which pleased the Chester winger the most.

"We showed that fighting spirit as a team," Lever said, "It was a tough one with the wind, but it was no excuse.

"We went 1-0 down with their only chance of the game at that point. We had to come back from it, even though we knew they didn’t deserve it. But we came back and put the game to bed in the end.”

The result marks a much-needed win for Chester following the recent tough performance against Stockport and disruption through game cancellations.

Lever was pleased the side kicked on towards the end of the game, when the Blues began to score at will.

“I do think it was important (to score so many)," she said, "gives us a bit of confidence for the team.

"We’ve had a couple of defeats on this run, a few tough opponents in recent weeks and games called off, etc.

"I do think it was important we carried on building and we didn’t just settle for a ‘2-1’ like it was at half time or a ‘3-1’."

The win sees Chester move up to the third spot in the league, something they will be hoping to hold on to until the end of the season.

The winger stressed that it's all about the team, even though she displayed another tremendous individual performance.

"I think I did ok. I’m always very critical." She said, "I was glad to get on the scoresheet in the end, I think I had about three assists before then so it was nice to get one myself.

"It’s a team game, even if it’s just providing assists, the scoreline is more important than who actually scores the goals."
